Why Personal Content Is the Secret to Selling More Homes

If you’re not sharing personal content to help you sell more houses, you’re doing it wrong.

After posting more than 1,800 times on Instagram, I’ve learned one thing for sure: it doesn’t matter if I’m posting a new listing, a local business, my kids, or even my feet. The goal is always the same: start conversations.

And what’s been proven over and over again is that personal content creates more conversations than anything else.

Don’t Stop the Market Updates

Now, this doesn’t mean you should stop making educational content. Don’t stop your hyper-local content. Don’t stop the market updates.

What it does mean is this: step back and look at your content mix as a whole. If you’re throwing too many punches, it’s time to jab a little more. Personal content is that jab.

When you share more of your life, you’re inviting your audience to connect with you in a way they won’t when you only post houses.

Why It’s Hard to Share Personal Content

I’ll be transparent, it’s been difficult for me to share more personal content. Not because I’m a private guy, but because it never felt like it “fit the plan.”

But here’s the truth: just like you have buckets for your real estate content, personal content has to be one of your non-negotiables.

Easy Ways to Share Personal Content

The key for me has been shooting the same things regularly that I know perform well. Here are a few personal content ideas that always start conversations:

  • The Gym. Anytime I share a run or a lift, people reach out.
  • Family Time. Breakfast prep, school drop-offs, or just dad life. Parents always engage.
  • Pets. I don’t even have a dog, but when I share animal content, DMs flood in. (Honestly, it makes me want to get one.)
  • Food. Don’t post every random lunch, but if nutrition or cooking is part of your life, share it. People always connect over food.

And it’s not just these categories. It can be anything: rock climbing, doing your nails, anime, collecting rocks. Whatever makes you uniquely you, that’s what people want to connect with.

Your PSA: Share More of You

At the end of the day, people want to work with someone they can relate to. They’re scrolling through their phones looking for common ground. And the fastest way to build that is by showing who you are outside of real estate.

So here’s your PSA: share more of your personal life.

And if this was helpful, share it with another real estate agent who needs to hear it.
